Sectional Title Update ...
“DRIP OR DUST,
THEY’LL FACE CITY’S WRATH”
An article apeared in yesterdays’ Star Newspaper in Gauteng, which reported on Nicosia’s drive to clean up its image. Nicosia, as you may or may not know, is the capital city of Cyprus. This made us think of our sectional title law, and thus worthy of comment!
Apparently, if you are a resident of Nicosia, according to a recent mayoral decree, if you so much as hang your laundry out to dry on your balcony or on a public street, you can be fined as much as R 1100 as from the 1st of October.
Not that we advocate fines in sectional title (nor are we sure that our Constitution permits it!), but this serves as a reminder of the provisions of Conduct Rule 8, in Annexure 9 to the Act , which states as follows:
Laundry
An owner or occupier of a section shall not, without the consent in writing of the trustees, erect his own washing lines, nor hang any washing or laundry or any other items on any part of the building or the common property so as to be visible from outside the buildings or from any other sections.
